This handsome boy needs your help. He has a raw growth underneath his body, as you can see. He was dropped off at our shelter with a note that said his name is "Griggs", the growth is non-cancerous, and his owner could not afford to have it removed.

Puff aka Marcel
Sept. 28, 2009
Puff was one of the Camp Husky dogs that was found on a bus with 187 dogs in the heat of the summer of 2008. After much rehabilitation, he is at his new home in Lake Tahoe, CA. Many thanks go to the Pilots for Paws Program for making it happen through volunteer pilots who fly shelter animals all over the country to new homes or too another shelter if their time has run out in the one they were at.
He left Billings this morning, to Twin Falls, ID, then on to Lake Tahoe. He liked the flying so much when he got to Twin Falls he wanted to jump right on another plane and go. Even with his three legs he made his way with little help into the other plane that picked him up.
Amazing story.

Puff has formed an un likely friendship with my old wolf. We took a 45 min walk at dusk, Islay in his chair and Puff hopping along. Periodically they would stop and Puff would snuzzle Islay and Islay would grrom Puff. Old Islay lost his best pal Aral (husky-coyote) when Fenris (black wolfdog) arrived and was more fun. This is something I didn't expect, for them each to new a new pal, but it made my heart melt to see it!
Here is Puff with Aral (husky coyote). This day they had a good bone chew together. Puff is really tormenting him and Fenris!! He wants badly to be one of the cool grown up dogs ;)
He is in the crate lots-it makes him feel secure, he goes in of his own accord. Also, he is resistant to peeing outside so it must be for now. He gets 4 good walks a day, plus gets to be out in the house if he pees on his walk.

Puff (now named Marcel) met his first coyote this day. Luckily, with the protection of 4 other giant dogs, he only tore a cut in his leg, but he certainly had lots of fun! I just ordered and received a 3 collar with 1" spikes for him to wear while running offleash. Can never be too careful with the coyotes!.
Puff (now named Marcel) running in the meadow with the big dogs.
November 24, 2009 Update
Marcel (Puff) is stretching out as well as growing. He has gained a good inch since being here! He is also standing far straighter. He's a good boy, having a great time, running in the woods, loves car rides, great with kids, loves the other dogs, going to doggie day care. Found his first deer carcass yesterday-he was curious but wary. No problems with him at all, except snappy if you touch the stub
Update: Dec. 21, 2009
Hi Angie,
Monsieur Marcel Marshmallow (as he has been ordained by my daughter) is right here, trying to get someone to play with him. Even the cat is tired of his teenage antics! Oops, here he comes now with a gigantic cow femur! We are starting to think we should have named him Clifford as he has put on 10 pounds and grown 2 inches in height, to 29" at the withers. He is taller than all my dogs except the wolf now. He stills is thin and lithe, and folds himself into bizarre origami shapes while sleeping. He insists on sleeping in his crate, and although it is the biggest Great Crate size available, it looks a bit small to me. All we say is "go to bed" and he's in there in a flash. The crate is filled with toys stolen from the other dogs (now he's in the Christmas presents- he really loves to shred all sorts of paper, especially important paperwork, toilet paper, and, in the spirit of the season, wrapping paper).
Anyway, he's a very sweet and quirky little dog who is a wonderful addition to the family. Even my husband (who is never keen on "more" dogs) is fond of him. He is definitely the "omega", and subject to the crabbiness of the old wolf and the corrections of the other dogs. He accepts their corrections well, and tries to please them. Through this, he is learning. He runs in the woods with the other dogs and is building up bodily strength and a little wilderness savvy. He rides well in the car, and comes to work with me at the perfume shop, where he is well behaved and lets all the customers pet him. He is still shy of them, though. He runs free at the barn, where he is afraid of the horses, but plays with the barn dogs and cats. (now he's on the sofa, pulling all sorts of things out of bags...Arrrgghhh!) My daughter has taken him under her wing, and Marcel adores her- he gets so worried when she gets out of the car to go to school. She has bought him a training harness out of her own money, since he's a bit unsure of how to walk on a leash, and so will be in obedience come spring.
Thanks again for sending this floppy-eared lovebug our way :)
Best Regards,
Jana
Update: January 1, 2010
Marcel is growing a winter coat-didn't think he would do it, so late in the season, but he looks GORGEOUS! He has begun placing his one leg in the middle while running, so he doesn't fall over so much. He has been going a few miles in the deep snow each day-he comes back exhausted, and takes his spot on the sofa. Usually he is with me or hubby, but when he goes out alone with the older boys, black wolfdog Fenris always waits for Marcel-he's never left behind. He's a real cuddlebug, and is an even better foot warmer for a cozy nap. No space issues at all, you can roll over on him (and he on you!) no problem.
Laat night he went to a New Year's party with 10 dogs out on the deck, where he had a total blast. He gets along with all other dogs, on the trail, in the dog park, anywhere. He also is at the shop with me twice a week, where he is very popular with the customers. What a life!
Happy New Year to you!
Best Regards,
Jana
Update: January 14, 2010
Our crazy giant puppy is running around with a yam in his mouth, like it's some wonderful prize. As you can imagine, none of the other dogs thinks so....
Some cute pix, one with my daughter, his best friend, and one in his favorite fancy chair :)

Jana
Update: April 21, 2010
Hi Angie,
Marcel is doing fantastic. He has grown a full 2.5" in height and is now the 2nd largest of all my dogs. He loves to come to work with me at the perfume shop, where he is very gentle with everyone. He has picked up on basic commands but will be in weekly group training sesions as of spring (it's still winter here-snowing again right now). He has forged a lovely and surprising friendship with old Islay, and they even ride in the back of the car together, all piled up. Islay was very ill for awhile-we almost lost him-and Marcel accompanied him to all his vet visits.
Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to have such a joyous friend in our home.
Best Regards,
Jana
Update: March 14, 2011
Hi Angie,
Just to let you know that Marcel is doing marvelously! His outstanding temperament at the shop (he works at the Fragrance Outlet in South Lake Tahoe, CA with me) has led many people to comment that he should be a therapy dog. I will be getting him the Canine Good Citizen cert, and hopefully after that he can pass the Therapy Dog tests. Marcel has an emotional understanding and intelligence that is unparalleled. His lovely attitude and expressive countenance make him a star wherever he goes. He also has become very strong in the front to compensate for the rear end being compromised, and is quite fit. I expect him to live a long and happy life. Such a handsome prince these days...think he is just over 3 years old now?
Thanks again for the opportunity to know and love this exceptional friend! I'll keep you posted on the Therapy Dog progress.
Best Regards,
Jana
